Dysphagia

Dysphagia is the medical term for swallowing difficulties (1). Difficulty swallowing can cause an issue with the passing of food from the mouth to the stomach, which may lead to a risk of food “going down the wrong way” , possibly leading to choking or pneumonia (2).

Dysphagia can make it difficult to take in enough calories and fluids to nourish the body, which could lead to additional serious problems. We have compiled some information about the causes of dysphagia and its impact on nutrition. To download click here.
